A glass balustrade is a stylish and modern safety barrier, providing strength and safety with unobstructed views. At Wellington Glass & Mirror, we offer a full range of glass balustrade options, from framed to semi frameless and fully frameless systems to suit your design, specification and budget.
Glass balustrades are ideal for decks, wind breaks, pool fences, and both internal and external balconies, stairs and landings. The glass can be clear for unobstructed views, or tinted or opaque offering varying degrees of privacy. Fittings come in either stainless steel, anodised aluminium or powder-coated aluminium in any colour in the Dulux powder coating range.
Decks & Balconies:
Glass balustrades for decks and balconies not only maximise your views but are an integral design feature of modern homes and apartments – inside and out.
Internal & External Stairways:
Creating a sense of space in your home.
Swimming Pool Fences:
Both stunning to see and promoting safety by maintaining excellent visibility.
We take no shortcuts when it comes to safety. All our custom balustrades use either toughened Grade-A safety glass or toughened Laminated Safety Glass (LSG) with a non-structural (EVA) or structural (SentryGlas®) interlayer, and are fully compliant with the stringent requirements set out in the NZ Building Code. We can also work with you or your architect on specific engineered designs if proprietary systems are not available or to your requirement.
Don’t settle for anything less. For complete reassurance, we’ll provide you with Producer Statements upon completion of the job.
There are many options available, and the most suitable for a particular location depends on building structure and use, wind zone, installation logistics and budget.
Systems with less visual framing typically require stronger glass and are therefore more expensive. Panel width also depends on wind zone, fixing and glass type. A selection of options is show below.
Choices include:
Please call our experienced team to discuss your situation and needs.
Infinity or Posiglaze base or side fixing with no handrail:
Using Laminated Safety Glass (SentryGlas®)
Double disk fixing with no handrail:
Using Laminated Safety Glass (SentryGlas®)
Infinity base or side fixing with interlinking handrail:
Using monolithic toughened safety glass
Double disk fixing with interlinking handrail:
Using monolithic toughened safety glass
Aluminium posts with no handrail:
Using EVA Laminated Safety Glass
Strut posts and interlinking top rail:
Using monolithic toughened safety glass
Aluminium posts and handrail:
Using monolithic toughened safety glass and either top or side-mounted handrail.
Other options:
Other options for glass balustrades include three or four-sided support, eg timber posts and rails, using either monolithic
(10-15mm toughened safety glass), EVA Laminated Safety Glass, or SentryGlas®.
From a cost perspective, the general rule is ‘the less you see, the higher the cost’. Fully frameless balustrades cost more than semi-frameless or framed options due to the requirement for thicker toughened or laminated safety glass and additional fixings.
We’re happy to discuss options with you and provide quotes on both indoor and outdoor glass balustrades, balconies, wind breaks, pool fences, stairs and landings. Please fill in our web form or give us a call.
